  • Notes
    • Dr. Munroe was in Surry, New Hampshire about 1783 and lived several years on or near lot No. 72. In 1790, he bought lots 22 and 23 and moved to No. 23 where he remained until he died.

In 1799, he tore down the house on lot 22, which had been used by Abel Munroe, his nephew. He used the timbers to build a second story on his house on lot 23. He then opened a tavern there which he ran for several years. He also practiced his profession and had a large farm.

Philip's first wife, Rhoda, died four days after the birth of their first child, Sophronia. The child died the same day.

His second wife was Betsy Briggs from Keene, New Hampshire. They were married by Thomas Baker, Esq. in Keene.

It is said that he was a very large and pawerful man physically and at the time of his death, the door casing of his home had to be taken off in order to remove his coffin.
